Semi-Homemade Pop Tarts

These pop tarts are super easy and very kid friendly to make!

All you need is:

  • 2 rolls of store bought rolls of pie dough

  • Jam of choice, I used strawberry

  • 1 egg and 2 tsp cold water

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 drops food coloring

  • 2-4 tbs milk

Roll out your pie dough and cut into a square by trimming the edges. Divide the dough into six equal parts (12 in total between two rolls).

Fill the center of half the dough rectangles with jam but leaving a centimeter boarder. In a small bowl combine egg and water and best thoroughly. Using a pastry brush or your finger, place a small amount of the egg mixture around the jam and then take another Piece of dough and place on top of each jam filled piece. Using your fingers gently press around the jam, forming the seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges and poke a few small holes in the top to vent.

Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.

While it bakes combine your other ingredients, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and coloring in a small bowl or mixing cup. If it’s too thick add a small amount of milk until you are able to pour it. If it gets too thin, add some sugar back in.

Once your pop tarts are at room temperature pour the glaze mixture over them and top with optional sprinkles or sanding sugar!
